It
takes more than just snapping
a great photo.
Capturing
the perfect image starts before
the day of the shoot. Making
sure that you get the best quality
image possible requires a thoughtful
process and a complete set of
services. Consider your back

Alternative
Photography
Sometimes
you need to get your hands dirty
and get back to basics. For
many years I have been working
with all sorts of alternative
methods of capturing images—from
Quaker Oatmeal box pinhole cameras
to $5 toy cameras complete with
plastic lenses and the inherent
light leaks that streak the
film.
My
current favorite is the pinhole
camera. Pinhole cameras have
no lenses, no light meters,
no electronics of any kind,
no view finder nor method of
previewing the image in the
camera. The exposures are long,
from 10 seconds to an hour and
are measured with a kitchen
timer.
I
am currently working on a book
celebrating the 175th anniversary
of the Rideau Canal in Ontario
using only pinhole cameras.
You can download samples from
the book (pdf format) .
Also check out the ‘’
section of the web site to see
samples of this type of work—the
rectangular images are the pinholes.
